OVERVIEW: LANGUAGES

  • Repetition & recycling vocab: repeat vocab: the more you repeat and the more you use it, the better you go from passive (receptive) to active (productive)
  • Synonyms: For each word: make a list of synonyms like thesaurus
  • Antonyms (and synonyms): like thesaurus
  • Richer vocab synonyms: This word –> Make it more fancy: for instance: good –> exquisite, fantastic: use richer vocab
  • Puzzles (22.9.2025, CLIL class): puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com: make puzzles of words
  • Lexical Sets and Semantic Fields, Association: Spider –> themes, scary, legs, animal etc… : from one word, make a mind map all the connected words: expand your vocab that way. Association: Breakfast: eggs, bacon, toast, coffee…
  • Types of vocab (CLIL 22.9.2025):
– General vocab: cheese, bread, book, table
– Subject specific vocab: the car, etc. (will not come in regular English class)
– Academic words: used in University etc…
  • Break down Vocab as follows as well:
– 250: essential words in Dutch, French etc…: 250 most used words of everyday.
– 750 words those that are used every single day.
– 2500: express everything.
– 5000: active vocabulary
– 10.000 active vocabulary higher education
-20.000 recognize passively
